Pikangikum First Nation

Repairs to distribution system underway, operational improvements ongoing

Project tracker

Projected lift date: TBD

Pikangikum First Nation in Ontario is home to 3,296 people on reserve. Repairs to the water treatment plant are complete and additional repairs on the distribution system are now underway.

There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 20 homes and 36 community buildings:

  • a boil water advisory was set on the Pikangikum Public Water System in February 2024 and became long term in February 2025

The advisory was put place due to a chemical feed pump failure. Repairs were completed in the fall of 2024, however, additional distribution system repairs, followed by consistent monitoring and operations, are required before the advisory can be lifted.

Operational support is being provided through the Water and Wastewater Support Service Hub delivered by the Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) Tribal Council and funded by ISC.
