- The scholarship provides financial support directly to students who identify as being from racialized and/or Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and/or Metis) communities, to support their living or academic expenses as they pursue research in technology that enhances quality of life and/or care of older adults. This award is intended to support a student in their pursuit of academic studies; funds do not need to be applied directly to research project expenses. The research the successful recipient engages in should emphasize a participatory approach, with meaningful collaboration and engagement of the community being served in each phase of the research process. Eligible students are studying at a university in Canada, current Master’s or PhD students, or students accepted to graduate school for the upcoming year, Self-identify as members of racialized and/or Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and/or Metis) communities*, and not previous recipients of this scholarship. *Note that while students who identify as First Nations, Inuit and/or Metis will receive priority consideration, all applicants identifying as being from racialized and/or Indigenous communities will be considered. To be considered for the Technology for Aging Gracefully Research Scholarship, applicants must submit the following: a completed online application form, copy of official university transcript or proof of acceptance to graduate studies in the upcoming year, and a personal statement describing their interest in applying for this scholarship and how their academic pursuits are participatory and collaborative to advance technology that enhances quality of life and care for older adults. Requirements of Scholarship Recipient: The recipient must agree to consider, on a case-by-case basis, requests from the RIA for photos, public appearances and presentations, both in person and online, to promote the scholarship for the benefit of future students, and must agree to provide a verbal or written update to the RIA within six months of receiving the scholarship regarding their research progress and academic milestones.
