- This national studentship supports Indigenous university, college and postgraduate students conducting community-grounded research in Indigenous mental health. Offered by MHRC and Mitacs, with additional regional support from Health Research BC, Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation and Research Manitoba, the program connects student researchers with academic supervisors and Indigenous community organizations or local service providers to advance research shaped by community priorities, Indigenous knowledge and lived experience. Eligibility Criteria: Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident self-identifying as First Nations, Inuit or Métis, must be enrolled in an undergraduate, master’s, college or PhD program at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution, must have a background in psychology or a related field or discipline, and must be conducting a research project focused on Indigenous mental health in collaboration with an academic supervisor and an Indigenous community organization or local community service provider. Application Details: The MHRC-Mitacs Annual Indigenous Mental Health Studentship call for proposals is open annually for a period of 4 weeks approximately, beginning on September 30 each year. Application Deadline: October 28, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET (for the 2026-2027 cycle)
